Did you all enjoy the Halloween parties?
There was bowling in Yaizu and funfair games in Fujieda.
ハロウィーンパーティーは楽しかったですか？
焼津でボーリングをやって、藤枝ではスタンプラリーをやりましたね。

 

At the Fujieda party, did you see J-kun carve a pumpkin?
That’s a popular pastime for us westerners around Halloween.
藤枝スタジオのイベントで、Ｊ君がジャックオーランタンを作るのを見ましたか？
ハロウィーンの時、西欧人はジャックオーランタンをよく作ります。とても人気です！

Do you know what else we do?
We go trick-or-treating around the neighbourhood!
We wear costumes and knock on neighbours’ doors and say ‘Trick or Treat!’.
みんなハロウィーンとは何か知ってますか？
西欧人は近所でトリック・オー・トリートをします！
コスチュームを着て、近所のドアをノックして、「トリック・オー・トリート！」と言います。

Do you know what trick or treat means?
It means ‘Something bad or something good’.
We carry around water pistols or eggs to use on people who don’t give us candy. It’s kind of a threat!
「トリック・オー・トリート」の意味が分かるかなー？
「悪いことか良いこと」という意味です。
水鉄砲とか生の卵とかを持って行き、お菓子をくれなかったら使っちゃいます！
なんだかテロみたいですね！

This house was covered in toilet paper! Oh dear!
この家はトイレットペーパーでアタックされました！
かわいそう！

That’s why many people buy candy on Halloween so that they can give candy to children who may have water pistols or eggs to use on them!
だから、ハロウィーンの夜は悪いことされないように、みんなお菓子いっぱい買うんですね！

And do you know why we dress up?
A long time ago, people believed ghosts and ghouls would visit us on Halloween, so we would dress up as ghosts and ghouls too to fool them!
それから、なんでコスチュームを着るのか知ってますか？
昔々のお話、ハロウィーンの時期になるとお化けや幽霊がやってくると信じていました。
お化けに気づかないように、みんながお化けや幽霊のまねをしました！
なるほどね！

Would you want to go trick-or-treating?
Would you be embarrassed? Hee hee!
