It’s now rainy season in Japan.
As I’m writing this blog, it’s raining really hard in Shizuoka.

このブログを書いている今も、激しい雨が降っています。
So I remembered a story about my life in the Philippines.
For today’s blog I want to talk about my country, the Philippines.
私の故郷のフィリピンでの思い出話が浮かんだので、今日はそのことを書こうと思います。
Japan has four seasons: Spring, Summer, Fall, and Winter.
However, Philippines has only two seasons: dry and wet seasons.
Half of the year is dry which also translates to summer days or hot weather.
Half of the year is wet which means typhoon season.
日本には春夏秋冬、４つの季節がありますよね。
フィリピンは季節はたった２つ。乾季と雨季だけです。
１年の半分が、言うなれば夏、暑い季節、もう半分が雨季で、台風シーズンです。
I remember when I was a student in the Philippines, I went to school during a typhoon.
My travel time from home to school is around 2 hours by bus.
The classes got suspended that day but I was already at school.
There was a lot of flooding everywhere.
The flood was already knee-length.
学生のとき、台風のなか学校に行ったときの話。
家から学校までバスで２時間でした。
授業は休講になっていたんだけど、もう学校に着いちゃって。
あちこちで浸水が起きていました。もうひざ丈まできちゃってた！
I could see diapers and garbage floating around!
The rain water was black.
That was the worst day of my life.
I was wearing my school uniform and I was so wet.
My umbrella was not enough.
I was laughing and crying out of frustration.
おむつとかゴミがそこら中に浮いてるし、雨の水がどんどん戻ってきちゃって
人生で一番最悪な日だったかも。
着ていた制服も濡れちゃったし、傘も全然役に立たなくて、泣きたくもなったしいろんな感情で笑えてきちゃった。
When there is typhoon, public transportation gets very unreliable.
Trains and buses can’t function.
After five hours of walking, waiting, and looking for a ride home, I got on a bus.
It was really cold in the bus and I was soaking wet!
I think I got sick after.
That was a day to remember but I was with some friends so it was still a funny story to tell.
台風の時は公共交通機関はとても頼りなくて、電車やバスは動かなくなっちゃうの。
歩いて、待ち疲れて、家までの帰る手段を探して、やっとバスに乗って…。
めちゃくちゃ寒かったし、びしょ濡れ！
確かそのあと風邪ひいたんだったと思う。。。
I am not a fan of rainy weather.
It makes me feel lazy.
I like spending time outdoors like camping, hiking, or even just walking.
When it’s rainy, it’s difficult to do the things I like.
雨季はあんまり好きじゃないですね。
なんだかだらけちゃいます。
キャンプとかハイキングとか外を散歩するようなアウトドアな活動が好き。
でも雨だとそういうのができなくなっちゃうから。
But I love how quickly seasons change. It just means nothing lasts forever.
I love summer and fall seasons in Japan.
I can go out to spend time with my family.
It’s just relaxing to spend time in nature.
でも季節が足早に過ぎ去っていくのは大好き。永遠に続くものはないことでしょう？
日本の夏と秋も好き。
家族ででかけて、自然の中でリラックスタイムを味わえるのがいいですよね。
In the Philippines, I barely had time to do any hobbies because of extreme weather and the distance
of beautiful place from where I used to live.
I am happy to discover how much I can do in Japan during my days off.
フィリピンでは、極端な気候と、私が住んでいた場所からその場所までの距離の問題で、趣味を楽しむ時間があんまりなかったなぁと思います。
でも日本では、どれだけ休日を楽しめるかを発見できてとても嬉しい！
