We’re back in Japan!
This summer I was able to visit London with a great group of students from Hop Step Jump. Although some of them have graduated from our school, we still consider them to be our students. Many of them have studied with us since kindergarten and so this trip was fantastic opportunity for myself, to see how far they have grown.
ただいま日本！
今年の夏はまた、ホップステップジャンプのすてきな生徒たちと、ロンドンを訪れることができました。そのうち何人かは、もうホップステップジャンプを卒業した高校生たちだったんだけど、コロナ前にロンドン行きに志願してくれている子たちだったんだ。彼女たちのほとんどが幼稚園から僕たちと英語を学んできてくれた子たちで、僕にとっても、どれだけ彼女たちが成長したかが見られる、最高の機会でした。
As a group, they became close friends soon after leaving Yaizu; and as individuals they each took on different roles throughout the week doing different chores, helping with breakfast or dinner, cleaning and so on.
焼津を出発してから、すぐに仲良くなったガールズ。１週間のうち、朝食の準備や掃除などの家事を役割分担してくれて、とっても助かりました。
After a long flight, the students must have been exhausted, but there were no complaints as they tried their best to adapt with the time difference.
長かったフライト後、間違いなく疲れていたはずなのに、不満をもらすことなく、時差にも適応しようとがんばってくれました。
We met my mother, who was amazed at how well the students behaved, and how polite they were. She was really happy to spend time with us, and she was so proud of them.
僕のお母さんにも会ったんだけど、彼女たちの振舞いをみて感心していたよ、なんて礼儀正しいの！って。お母さんもまた、彼女たちといっしょに時間を過ごしてとても楽しそうだったし、えらい子たちだねって言っていたよ。
We stayed in London for one week, but the time passed so quickly! Our schedule for the week was decided by the students before we left Japan. Every day was full of different places which they wanted to visit; Harry Potter Studios, the British Museum, Covent Garden….
ロンドンに１週間の滞在だったんだけど、時間が過ぎるのがあっという間！出発前に自分たちでスケジュールを決めたんだけど、毎日訪れたい場所でいっぱい。ハリーポッタースタジオに、大英博物館、コヴェントガーデン・・・
On “J-Kun’s tour” (a tour around the main sights) I also added a few extra surprises which were popular with the students. They enjoyed the graffiti tunnels, and the butterfly trail.
Jくんによるロンドンツアー(メイン観光地ツアー)では、人気の場所をサプライズで追加した観光に。落書きのトンネルやバタフライトレイルを楽しんでいたよ。
Everyday we were able to try so many different kinds of food. The students loved fish and chips!
そして毎日いろんな食べ物にもトライ。みんなやっぱりフィッシュアンドチップスが好きだったみたい！
And now we are back safely in Japan. The students will have many stories to tell, and will surely want to explain the hundreds of photos they took in London.
日本に無事に帰ってきました。生徒たちは話したいことがたくさんあるはず。ロンドンでとったたくさんの写真とともに話が止まらないと思うよ。
I hope that the student will treasure this Hop Step Jump to London experience, and it will be a wonderful memory for them. Maybe it’s opened their eyes to the bigger world outside of Japan, and hopefully they will find a way to use this experience in their futures.
このロンドンでの経験が、生徒たちにとって最高の思い出で、宝物になってくれたなら嬉しい。日本から出て、彼らの世界が大きく開けたんじゃないかなと思います。そして、願わくば、この経験が将来を見つける手助けになってくれたらいいな。
