It’s now October, and that means Halloween is coming! Halloween is a time of mystery, fun, and a little bit of fear. Did you know that many superstitions also surround Halloween? People do superstitions to bring good luck or avoid bad luck. These are some interesting Halloween superstitions.
10月になりましたね。ということは！ハロウィーンシーズンです！ハロウィーンというのは、なんだか不思議で、そしてワクワク、ちょっと怖い！？ハロウィーンにまつわる言い伝え(迷信)がたくさんあるのを知っていますか？人はみな、良いことを得るため、また悪いことは寄せ付けないために、言い伝えを守ったりします。今日はハロウィーンのおもしろい言い伝えをご紹介します。
- Black cats bring bad luck
In many Western cultures, seeing a black cat cross your path is considered unlucky. This comes from history when people thought witches could transform into black cats. If you come across a black cat on Halloween you might be meeting a witch!
黒猫は縁起が悪い
多くの西洋の文化では、黒猫が横切るのを見ると縁起が良くないと考えられています。これは魔女が黒猫に変身すると言われているところから来ています。もしハロウィーンで黒猫が横切るのを見かけたら、魔女に会っちゃうかも！

One Halloween superstition is a little spooky. If you hear footsteps behind you on Halloween night, you shouldn’t look back. It might be a spirit or a ghost following you! If you look behind you it might bring bad luck or danger!
背後から足音が聞こえたら振り返ってはいけない
このハロウィーンの言い伝えはちょっと不気味です。もしハロウィーンの夜、うしろから足音が聞こえたら、振り返ってはいけません。オバケが近づいている音かも！もし振り向いてしまったら・・・危ないかも！！
- Spiders are protectors
Many people don’t like spiders (myself included), but on Halloween spiders are a sign of good luck! Some people believe that a spider could be an ancestor watching over you and protecting you.
クモはプロテクター
クモが嫌いなひとは多いけど(私もそうなんだけど)、ハロウィーンではクモはラッキーなサイン！クモはご先祖様が見守ってくれているのではないかと言われています。
