I noticed there are a lot of food-related clubs cards. Do you know them?

気づいたのは… 食料の関係あるカードが多い。
知ってるかなー？



Recently, some British food has been in the news.
It seems Americans don’t know what ‘Beans on toast’ is.
最近、ニュースでイギリスの食料が出てきました。
アメリカ人は「ビーンズオントースト」という、イギリスの料理を知らないみたいです。

「ビーンズオントーストって何だろう？
　食べたことある人いるかな？
　これイギリスだけの食事？？」
Beans on toast is a classic meal in England, so we are very amused by the Americans’ reactions!
イギリス人にとってビーンズオントーストは伝統的な食事なので、

So what else is a classic British meal?
Well, of course, fish and chips!!

I can hear you saying ‘What’s that green stuff??’
「その緑のやつ何だろう？？」が聞こえてるよー！
Those are mushy peas!
「マッシーピーズ」です！
They’re soooo good!
お豆をつぶしたソース！美味しいー！！
‘But I heard English food is bland…’
「でも… イギリスの料理がまずいって聞いたよ…。」
Wrong!!!
違います！！！
That is a stereotype from long ago. Before the first world war, British food was so fancy it was hard to make, so only skilled cooks could cook the dishes. Many cooks did not return from the war, so our food was reduced to simple meals such as stews. To make matters worse, England could not import any more luxury goods such as sugar or cream.
それは大昔の話。第一次世界大戦の前、イギリスの料理はとてもおしゃれで難しいから、スキルのあるコックしか作れませんでした。多くのコック達は第一次世界大戦から戻ってこなかったため、それ以降イギリスの料理は簡単なシチューなどになりました。おまけに、戦争のせいで砂糖やクーリムなどの贅沢品も輸入できなかったのです。
Thankfully, after many years, we have improved our dishes.
やっと何年後、料理がまたうまくなってきてよかったー。^^
