Summer vacation in 2023 was really special!
2023年の夏休みはとってもスペシャルでした！
In July I was able to take six students back to the UK for a stay in London!
7月、6名の生徒を連れてイギリス、ロンドンへ帰国！
Our closing meeting for the trip finished last week. It gave the students, parents and myself a chance to talk about what a great trip we all had. I enjoyed going through some of my photos and telling the parents the stories behind them. The meeting lasted almost two hours, but I honestly could have talked for longer!
先週、保護者の方たちを交えた報告ミーティングを終えたばかりなんだけど、僕たちが経験した旅がどんなに素晴らしかったかお話する良い機会でした。写真を見せながら、その写真の背景にはどんなことがあったのか伝えられてとてもよかったよ。ミーティングは2時間にわたるものだったけど、まだまだしゃべれそうだったくらい！笑
The students had previously presented their ideas about the sights they wanted to see, and the activities they wanted to try, in the meeting before our departure. We were able to prepare a week full of fun; and did everything that they wanted to do!
子どもたちは前もって、イギリスで自分たちが見たいものややってみたいことを、出発前に行なった事前ミーティングで話し合って、1週間楽しみで満たされたプランを準備。やりたかったこと全部叶えてきました！
Activities included the zoo, museums, riding the London Eye, a trip to the Happy Potter Studios, riding a London bus, touring London with some of my family, and so much more. Every day we returned to our accommodation exhausted but excited for the next day too!
ロンドン動物園、博物館、ロンドンアイやハリーポッタースタジオツアー、ロンドンバスにも乗ったし、僕の家族や親せきたちとロンドン観光もして、ここに書ききれないくらいいろんなことができたね。だから宿泊先に帰ってきたときは毎日ぐったりだったけど、翌日のことを考えるだけでまたわくわく！
Whilst in the UK we all enjoyed a variety of different foods; fish and chips, bangers and mash, pies, curry, hamburgers, and the students all seemed to love British cuisine! They also experienced the differences between snacks in the UK and Japan, some which they liked and others which they didn’t. Salt and vinegar crisps were a new flavor for all of them!
イギリスにいる間、いろんな食も楽しめたよ。フィッシュアンドチップスや、ソーセージ、マッシュポテト、パイ、カレーに、ハンバーガー。こどもたちみんなイギリスの食を楽しんでいたよ。また、日本とイギリスのお菓子の違いに気が付いて、好きなものもあったしあんまりなものもあったみたい。ソルト＆ビネガーのポテトチップスに困惑ぎみな彼らでした！笑
After arriving back in Japan, I heard some amazing news regarding a past student. She is now studying in high school in Canada! After studying at Hop Step Jump, and then visiting the UK, she felt confident enough to make a life changing decision and study abroad in high school. All of us at Hop Step Jump were so happy to hear this news.
日本に帰ってきてから、ホップステップジャンプの卒業生の女の子から驚くべきニュースが。なんと今、留学してカナダの高校で勉強しているんだって！ホップステップジャンプに通っていたことと、海外ツアーでイギリスに行った経験があったからこそ、人生を変える決断ができたんだと思いますと、ママからメッセージが届きました。それを聞いたときはもうスタッフみんなで大喜びしたよ。
When we first started Hop Step Jump, we wanted to show students that learning English could be fun, and could become a big part of their future. Now we are starting to see those ideas become a reality.
僕たちがホップステップジャンプをスタートしたとき、子どもたちに英語を学ぶ楽しみをおしえたくて、その先にある子どもたちの未来に、英語が大きな役割を持つ、ということを示したいと思っていたんだ。それがどんどん現実のものになってきたよ！
Both of these reasons made summer vacation in 2023 special.
そう、これが2023年の夏がとってもスペシャルだったワケ。
